Cairo Masks

These beautiful masks are inspired by the gold Egypt. They are painted with art metal gold paint.

The Egyptian Mask Tradition
We are familiar with the Egyptian burial mask decoration from the 3-4000 year old sarcophagi found in the Valley of the Kings, where wood, gold and the semiprecious stones Lazulis, turquoise etc. were used. Masks and headdresses were used as part of the religious rituals of the time, symbolising the many gods of the old Egypt. We have taken inspiration from the ancient Egyptians and tried to achieve a simple and stylish look, which is characteristic of the ancient Egyptian masks.

1. Paint the mask with one or two coats of art metal gold paint. Then let the mask dry.

2. Paint stripes with the blue colours.

3. Draw black patterns with craft paint in plastic refill bottles.

4. Also use the plastic refill bottle for making dots.

By adding water to the paint, you achieve a transparent paint which varies in strength and covering power.

1. Paint the coat rack with very diluted paint.

2. You may sand the coat rack first to achieve a worn or distressed look.

3. Finally varnish the wood with matt acrylic lacquer.

1. Use a wet foam stencil brush to apply the craft paint onto the wood.

2. Mark the area where you want the blackboard and paint with blackboard paint.

3. Attach the outer thin layer of the napkin onto the board using matt decoupage lacquer.

Tablecloths from Vivi Gade Fabric

A table runner and a tablecloth are sewn from vivi gade fabric from the copenhagen series. Decorated with a lovely lace.

1. For the table runner cut to a desired length: 1 piece measuring 23cm, two pieces each measuring 12cm and two pieces each measuring 6cm.

2. Cut the same sizes from vlieseline minus 1cm in each side. Iron onto the fabric.

3. Sew all lengths together with 1cm seam.

4. Sew the lace onto each side of the centre piece of fabric.

5. Cut another piece of fabric with the same measurement as the sewn pieces of fabric. Sew together, right side against right side with a 1cm seam all the way around. Leave an opening for turning the cloth inside out. Sew the opening together with back stitches. Iron the table runner.

6. Fold in 1cm of the edges of the tablecloth and iron to fix (you may use the sewing machine to sew over lock stitches beforehand). Sew on the lace.
