Christmas Decorations you can make yourself: Weaving Paper Strips


1. Weave a base using 8 x 8 paper strips. For a basket measuring 11 x 11 cm use the wide paper strips.

2. Glue as shown in the photo and cut off excess strips.

3. Fold along the two outer layers of all four lengths.

4. Punch holes with a fiskars eyelet setter in all four corners as shown in the photo.

5. Set eyelets.

6. The basket gets its shape by gathering all the corners with organza ribbon.

Polystyrene Balls with Decoupage Paper

           
Polystyrene balls are covered with decoupage paper and varnished. The attached striped cotton string with wooden beads is used for hanging.

1. Cut out two identical designs from the sheet of decoupage paper. Cut two notches at the top and at the bottom.

2. Glue these onto the polystyrene ball with decoupage lacquer. Apply the lacquer along the moulding line in the middle of the polystyrene ball and smooth out the paper using a brush.

3. Cut a long continuous piece of patterned paper with notches on one side. Rotate the long piece of paper as it is glued onto the ball. Varnish the baubles twice with the decoupage lacquer. Wooden beads are threaded onto striped cotton string which is glued into the hole at the top of the bauble.

4. Varnish the baubles twice with the decoupage lacquer.

5. Double over the piece of striped cotton string and thread it through a wooden bead.

6. Glue the string into the hole at the top of the bauble.

A Lantern with 3D Snow Effect

           
This large lantern is decorated with decoupage paper and then dapped with 3D snow effect.

1. Cut out a motif from decoupage paper and attach it to the large lantern using decoupage lacquer.

2. Apply 3D snow effect onto the lantern using a spatula.

3. Make small dots on the lantern using a foam stencil brush.

4. Decorate with a pearl pen along the decoupaged motif.

Lovely Linen Angels

       
These small angels are made from linen and decorated with a pearl pen and mother-of-pearl buttons. Finally, a pair of metal wings covered with white feathers is attached to the back of the angel.

1. Cut out the angel using the template. Please notice that the seam is included in the template.

2. Sew the two sides of the angel together leaving a 1cm seam. Leave the base open for stuffing. Fill the angel with polyester stuffing and sew to close the hole.

3. Decorate with a pearl pen and draw a face.

4. Use a glue gun for attaching the buttons, the wings and the string for hanging.

A Christmas Tree with Wooden Sticks

       
Cut strips of wood into small pieces and drill a hole in the middle of a flower stick which will function as the center piece of the Christmas tree. Glue on the stand with wood glue. Bend the star from bonsai wire and wrap thin silver-plated wire with drop-shaped glass beads around the star.

1. Saw wood sticks in pairs in the following sizes:

13cm x 2 pieces
15cm x 2 pieces 
17cm x 2 pieces 
20cm x 2 pieces 
22cm x 2 pieces 
24cm x 2 pieces

Also saw some spacers; 2cm squares x 14 pieces.

2. Drill a 6.5mm hole in the middle of all the wood pieces.

3. Glue the stand together.

4. Glue a 49cm long flower stick into the hole in the stand.

5. Assemble the Christmas tree. You will need approx. six wood sticks for a Christmas tree.

6. Form a star from a 50cm long piece of bonsai wire.

7. Wrap a piece of silver-plated wire with drop-shaped glass bead around the star.

8. Glue decorations onto the wood slices.

Flowerpots with Pinecones

         
The pine cones have been decorated with modelling paste, with glitter sprinkled over and moss stuck on top. The pots have been decorated with star anise painted with metallic gold paint.

1. Brush fine modelling paste onto the pine cone.

2. Sprinkle transparent glitter over the wet modelling paste.

3. Paint the flower pot with matt paint.

4. Paint the star anise gold with metallic paint.

5. Glue the star anise to the pot with a glue gun.

6. Stick pieces of moss in between the pine cone petals.
