Jewellery School - An Adjustable Knot

An adjustable knot is an adjustable fastening for necklaces and bracelets made on leather, polyester and cotton cords without using claps and tools.

1. Arrange the two long ends parallel and tie an adjustable knot in each side . Make a loop with one end of the cord and twist this end around itself and the other cord three to five times.

2. Now push the end of this cord through the loops – also through the first loop.

3. Now pull the end of the cord and the loops will lie flat and tight around the two cords.

4. Cut the end of the cord off close to the knot. Glue it onto the loops. Take care not to glue it onto the cord on which it is intended to slide.

Fabric Printing on Shopping Bags

Apply some white textil fabric paint onto a sheet of acetate. Scratch your design into the wet paint with a rubber brush and transfer onto the shopping bag.

1. Lay the shopping bag flat onto a hard surface. Place a piece of plastic inside the bag.

2. Apply a generous layer of  textil paint onto the hard plastic foil with a brush.

3. Scratch a pattern or design into the wet paint using a rubber brush.

4. Now transfer the sheet of hard plastic foil with the paint design onto the fabric. Rub thoroughly and pull offthe plastic foil. Let the transferred design dry and fix with an iron.

Cut the straps for handles in the middle and tie them with the cushion inside.

Candle Holders with Natural Materials

These candle holders are decorated with wood veneer, cork and leather.

1. Cut two pieces of wood veneer; approx. 17cm wide and 7.5cm high.

2. Place these two pieces on top of each other – back to back. Make two holes at both ends of the veneer to accommodate the leather cord.

3. Tye a piece of leather cord inside the holes.
